Speech with Governor Dukakis -Jan. 21, 2012 (1)
Traveling Stories founder, Emily Moberly, was honored to speak at an event sponsored by the City Club of San Diego featuring Governonr Michael Dukakis at the La Jolla Country Day School. Dukakis gave his annual State of the Nation address after Emily spoke on the work Traveling Stories is doing to outsmart poverty one book at a time! After both speeches, Gov. Dukakis and his wife received Reading is Sexy t-shirts. The governor said he thought it would look really nice on his morning walks! -
Creando Enlaces: A Conference to Expand Library Borders - Jan. 15, 2012 (1)
Traveling Stories presented at "Creando Enlaces", a conference with presentations on Literacy, Bookmobile Outreach, Programming, Innovations in Libraries, Bilingual Book Authors, Collection Development, and Latino Leadership in relation to libraries in Baja and Southern California. Cheers2Charity Beer Pong Tournament - June 26 (27)
People came out to Typhoon Saloon to launch the first Sunday Funday of Summer with Traveling Stories! Teams competed for the championship trophy, $250 bottle service to Typhoon and a pair of Reading is Sexy shirts! Runners up won portable turntables from Urban Outfitters! The money raised will help pay the salary of our librarian in El Salvador! -
Discover the Maya - June 25 (22)
More than 50 children and their families attended Discover the Mayas, a workshop lead by award-winning author Mara Price! Children learned where chocolate comes from and how to write their name in Mayan symbols. Mara read her book "Grandma's Chocolate". The event was held at the WorldBeat Center in Balboa Park. -
Spellapalooza! (22)
June 2 we gathered at True North Tavern for Spellapalooza - the official Scripps National Spelling Bee Watch Party & Competition! Everyone placed a $5 prediction on which kid they thought would win ... the there who guesses correctly won prize packs! After the National Spelling Bee we had one of our own! Contestants could bribe judges for hints or second chances! The winners received a trophy, copy of The Big Book of Words You Should Know (donated by Urban Outfitters) and a Traveling Stories book mark. After it was all said and done we raise $220 for our weekly Story Telling Tent set to launch at the City Heights Farmers Market June 18! -

Cheers to Charity @ El Dorado (1)
Saturday, Feb. 5 we had Cheers to Charity, a happy hour event to raise money for the El Salvador Libraries. More than 120 people came to the event, which was held at El Dorado Bar (1030 Broadway) and helped us raise more than $1,200!! -

Dec. 11, 2010 at World Beat Center Meet the Author event with Latin authors Mara Price (Mexico) , Laura Lacamara (Cuba) , and Rene Colato Lainez (El Salvador) at World Beat Center in Balboa Park. Event is free and books by the featured authors will be for sale with proceeds benefitting Traveling Stories. -

Aug. 12-14, 2010 at Yogurt Mill, La Mesa. With each lick you take of that delicious yogurt you help send books to kids in Sudan! Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed some yogurt! We had the best turn out of all the fundraisers ever done at Yogurt Mill La Mesa! -

We got the letter from the IRS saying that Traveling Stories is tax exempt and OFFICIALLY nonprofit! We celebrated this great news with a bottle of champagne and pitcher of beer at the Waterfront on Kettner. I made everyone around us read this IRS letter! -
